Supported in-place upgrade paths

Learn about the certified in-place upgrade paths for Cloudera Base on premises, including supported source versions, cumulative hotfix (CHF) guidelines, and database backup prerequisites.

Understanding supported upgrade paths

The versions listed in these tables represent the upgrade paths that Cloudera certified through end-to-end testing for each target release. They do not represent the only supported source versions.

  • CHF support: Within a listed release line (for example, CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.9 SP1), you can upgrade from any cumulative hotfix (CHF) of that line unless noted otherwise.

  • "or higher": Indicates that the listed CHF is the minimum required version.

  • "at most CHF<n>" or "must not have any CHF": Indicates a specific maximum CHF limit.

  • Versions without qualifiers: If a software version does not have any extra notes, tags, or restrictions attached to it (like "CHF14" or "or higher"), it acts as a standard baseline. You can upgrade to your target version from any cumulative hotfix (CHF) within that release line, unless the Notes column explicitly indicates there is a specific exception or limit.

If your source version does not appear in the following table and you are unsure whether it qualifies, contact Cloudera Support before you upgrade.

The following table provide information about the supported upgrade paths for upgrades to Cloudera Base on premises. Before upgrading, ensure that you select a compatible version of Cloudera Manager. See Cloudera Manager Support Matrix.
